The term TMJ disorder is an abbreviation for Temporo-Mandibular joint disorder, or the jaw joint. The TMJ disorder is the joint formed by the temporal bone of the skull with the condyle of the mandible. There are two TM joints, one in front of each ear. These joints move each time we chew, talk, or swallow. It is the most complex joint in the body. Separating these two articulating bones is a disc.

For most people, pain in the area of the jaw joint or muscles does not signal a serious problem. Generally, discomfort from these conditions is occasional and temporary, often occurring in cycles. Most Common Symptoms of TMJ disorder are frequent headaches, clicking or popping jaw joints, pain when chewing or yawning, grinding or clenching your teeth, neck/shoulder pain, worn teeth, your teeth do not touch when you bite, “stiffness” in your jaw joints that make it difficult to open or to close your mouth.
